New beginnings: Starting a new blog

Hello, welcome to my blog!

I’m glad you came by and I hope you like it here. 

My name is Aniekan and I work as a data scientist. Outside of my day job, I try to improve my knowledge of machine learning, artificial intelligence and learn French. I have strong interests in technology, data, strategy, business and products. A perfect world for me would be one where I have a career that enables me to perfectly combine all these. 

Work and my career take up a great percentage of my life currently, as you can probably tell by now. However, outside of that, I love showing love and spending time with my close friends and family. I also love to spend my free time exploring new places, trying out new food, taking unprofessional pictures, creating experiences and memories, playing scrabble and sleeping. Yes, rest is very important. 

Enough about me. 

So why did I set up this blog? 

Time for some history.

In August 2017, I created a Medium page with hopes of writing about my life journey and sharing knowledge. My first post went up on my 20th birthday in October that year. In between then and December 2020, I posted a few articles and had been featured in some reputable Medium publications like (Noteworthy – The Journal Blog, The Startup, Analytics Vidhya). 

Some time at the beginning of December 2020, I got a notice from Medium that my account was deactivated. This was shocking and devastating and I appealed but got no response. I had toyed with the idea of getting my personal website and blog a few times previously, but when this happened, I decided to take those thoughts seriously. We first had to decide if I needed a website or a blog, then I compiled a list of what was important to me for my new blog. I also received help with researching possible platforms that I could host my blog, on based on my desired features.

And here we are!

What will my blog be about?

Again, I will try to write more, sharing knowledge and documenting lessons as I journey through life. My blog will be divided into sections to highlight my major interests. These sections include technology, career, studying, life and adventures. Most of my posts would fall under either of these sections. However, as I evolve as a human, these sections could evolve as well.

For technology, I will focus mainly on data analytics, data science, machine learning and the likes as it pertains to industry applications. Career and study articles will cover hacks that have worked for me and lessons and values I have picked up from my experiences or learning from people I watch. The life section will share posts on navigating life. Values, friendships, finances and other related issues necessary for living a productive, efficient, impactful and happy life. 

I am very much still on a journey and I learn every day, but I would like you to come along with me on this journey.
